Wendy Battles-Plasse, Presenter Extraordinaire

March 4, 2010

One of the things I like best about being a health coach and nutritionist is the opportunity to motivate people into action and help them stand up for their health.  As women, we can’t help but do a lot.  We’re always taking care of everyone else, but we tend to do a poor job of making our own health a priority, despite our best efforts.  You just have to look around and see the alarmingly high rates of diabetes, cancer and heart disease in women to see that our lifestyle plays a part.

I love presenting at the Women’s Health Conference because it’s an opportunity to help women tune into their health, even just for a day.  When we attend, we all get to slow down, get out of our heads, reconnect with our bodies and listen for what we most need.  And it’s a chance to figure out how we can play and relax more throughout the year, not just this one day.  Last year, I attended a workshop on belly dancing that I found inspiring.  I just don’t move in those particular ways on a daily basis, and it was so fun and different that I couldn’t help but be motivated to find a belly dancing class when I left the conference.

I’m looking forward to the possibility of a whole set of new ideas and connections with other amazing women who are trying to find and keep their health groove. What about you? Are you ready to shift your perspective and stand up for your health?

You are so right about women, Wendy; I guess we’re just wired to take care of others first. That’s good for them, not always for us. One strategy I use is to keep healthy snacks in my car so I don’t detour to the candy counter or drive-through. I always have packs of cocoa almonds and Kardea gourmet wellness bars (http://Shop.KardeaNutrition.com).

I’m a big fan of keeping healthy snacks with me in the car or my pocketbook for those moments where you’re tempted to make poor choices. Just last night I munched on a handful of clean eating almonds driving home from a meeting at 10 pm.

Thanks WFLC staff for another amazing conference. I was so thrilled to participate again this year!
